I took a cycling class Sunday. When I say I still feel it, I still feel it. But one thing that stuck with me is what my instructor, Amina Daniels at Live Cycle Delight , kept shouting throughout the class as my legs continued to ache.

Are you thriving or coasting?

Well… I thought I was doing okay in this class until you asked….

Anyway, I started thinking more and more over the course of this one hour class. I thought about life decisions, career goals, and if I’m living up to my full potential.

Obviously, answer the question Amina was yelling: Am I thriving or coasting?

Me to Me: Girl, you’re coasting. Increase this bike speed and get yo’ life.

Okay I’ve identified that I’m chilling and not fully living up to my potential. What can I do to change this?

Figure out what I want to do and how I’m going to get there.

During my one hour ride, I came up with a few prompts to really start thinking about how I can get the most out of life. Hopefully this helps someone else.

  1. What am I good at / What are my God – given talents?
  2. What do I enjoy doing?
  3. What do I want to be known for? If someone had to recommend me for XYZ, what would it be?
  4. Who do I know that’s doing what I want to improve upon and can / will they mentor me?
  5. If I don’t know them already, who can I meet?

But most importantly…..

*What opportunities do I need to create for myself to get to where I want to go?*

I know. Easier said than done. But I feel that once I switch my mindset from working hard to working smarter, then I’ll begin to thrive.
